Career Link Working With Jobless Mitsubishi Workers

Many laid off Mitsubishi workers are still searching for new directions after the plant ended production last year.

State and local officials are offering help with that. Dena Weth is the Assistant Director for Career Link, the agency assisting Mitsubishi Associates re-entering the job market. Weth tells Charlie Schlenker they met with most workers right after the plant closure was announced last year. That was in a series of rapid response meetings. There were also 40 workshops in October and November.

Unlike some closures, Mitsubishi ended operations because of trade reasons. Weth says that allowed the filing of a petition for trade, which opened up additional benefits.

Career Link has offices in the old Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home building at 705 East Lincoln Street in Normal. The phone number is 309-808-0488. Career Link serves eight counties in central Illinois in addition to McLean.
