The Tri-County death toll from COVID-19 increased by two Thursday after case reviews identified additional December fatalities from Woodford County.

The victims were a man in his 90s and a woman in her 80s. Both were associated with long-term care facilities.

The region's number of deaths increased to 592 since the start of the pandemic, while total infections climbed to 35,335 with an addition of 84 since Wednesday. Out of 32 coronavirus patients in Peoria-area hospitals, eight are currently in intensive care units.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 2,325 new cases and 34 more deaths in the past day. The state’s totals over the past year are up to 1,216,090 infections and 21,022 lives lost.

Updated IDPH figures on vaccine administration show Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties have combined for 155,753 injections and 60,838 fully vaccinated residents – or 17.3% of the population.

The three counties added 1,984 administered doses in the past day. The daily average over the past week stands at 2,444.

As a whole, Illinois recorded 92,684 shots in arms and 39,920 more fully vaccinated residents since Wednesday. The state’s totals grew to nearly 4.38 million doses provided and 12.9% of the population now fully vaccinated.
