Cheryl Gaines To Try For Normal Township Post

Cheryl Gaines

Normal Town Council Member Cheryl Gaines says she wants to become Township Supervisor.

She will step off the council next year after 24 years.

"And I just would like another chance to grow again in something, have another challenge," said Gaines.

Gaines said she is pleased with the new Adult Recreation Center and hopes to continue that work.

"I really do want to make sure that the ARC stays strong for the whole community and of course with with General Assistance. I have background working with the indigent or some of the less fortunate in our community. And I have worked with the homeless," said Gaines.

Gaines said she has been thinking about the move for several years.

"I just think the township plays a big important role in the community. I have administrative experience. I have worked with seniors. I've got a lot of different experiences that just culminate together and really fit the supervisor's role," said Gaines.

Current Supervisor Rich Farr is not running again. The Republican caucus to pick a nominee is December 6th.

Gaines says she would not immediately quit her non-profit Institute for Collaborative Solutions, though she would do succession planning.
