Chestnut Family Center and Molina Health Care are teaming up to help families with food insecurities this holiday season.

The two organizations will host a food giveaway on Thursday, Dec. 10, where they will distribute 400 bags of dinner items and sanitary supplies such as masks and hand sanitizer. The dinners will include chicken, stuffing, green beans, and other sides that families can prepare at home.

The giveaway is from 2 to 5 p.m. at Chestnut Family Health Center in Bloomington.

Chestnut Integrated Health Coordinator Pam Kouri said the giveaway can help families in food desert areas, allowing them to enjoy the holidays and cope with isolation restrictions due to the pandemic.

“People needing to be isolated and quarantine with restrictions, people start to feel lonely, sad, depressed, anxious. So being able to take advantage of a beautiful day and come out and see some friendly faces and then be able to receive really a pretty nice selection of food items.”

The event offers walk-up and drive-thru options. Attendees will be required to stay in their vehicles, wear a mask, and pull into a “distribution row” and park their vehicles. Volunteers will load the vehicles with the gift bags.
