Peoria attorney Chris McCall is officially throwing his hat in the ring for the Peoria County State's Attorney's office.

McCall was one of two people to apply for the job following the death of incumbent Jerry Brady in June. The Peoria County Board unanimously approved the appointment of 10th Circuit Court Judge Jodi Hoos, a former prosecutor, to that vacancy.

Hoos is set to take office in September. She is the first woman to hold the state's attorney's role in Peoria County.

McCall will hold a campaign announcement this Sunday at 3 p.m. at his McCall Law Offices, 1225 N. North St.

McCall aims to run against Hoos in next March's Democratic primary. Some of his proposals include hiring a bilingual social worker at the Peoria County State's Attorney's Office, implementing a program to seal and expunge criminal records for those eligible, and decreasing or entirely eliminating the use of cash bonds for non-violent offenders.
