CityLink Riders Want Expanded Service On Weekends and Evenings, Study Shows

CityLink

CityLink riders want more service after dark and on weekends. That’s the biggest takeaway from the recently-released “CityLink on the Move” study.

The Knoxville, Garden, Western, Sheridan and Parkview routes currently don’t operate after 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, or 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The routes don’t run at all on Sundays.

“I think we would have to take a look at the overall service to see ways that we would be able to accomodate adding more service," said CityLink spokesperson Emily Watson.

Watson notes the study also shows it may make sense to consolidate some routes with lower ridership while still retaining overall service area.

Some of the suggestions made include cutting a route serving the Meadow Avenue area near EastSide Centre in East Peoria and expanding service to Bartonville again after that route was cut in 2014.

The study also proposesexpanding the Parkview route to the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, and consolidating the Garden, Sheridan and Northwest Express routes with existing routes.

More bus shelters also remain a consistent demand. CityLink switched from bus flag-downs to a fixed-stop system last year.

The consultants who compiled the study will present their findings at the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District’s September board meeting.

The study seeks to help CityLink set up a five-year plan.
