President Barack Obama has nominated appeals court judge Merrick Garland to the US Supreme Court to fill the seat vacant since the death of Antonin Scalia. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says no one the president nominates will be considered by the Senate. Central Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis says since he's not in the Senate, it's not his job to confirm a nominee, but says Senate leadership's been consistent. "I was with Mitch McConnel at a meeting a week and a half ago, and he said that there is no way that this nominee will be confirmed by the Senate, so we'll see if that changes." Davis won't say if he believes those hearing SHOULD be held. At least one Republican Senator, Mark Kirk of Illinois, says the nomination should be considered. Kirk is in a tough bid against Iraq war vet and US Representative Tammy Duckworth for reelection.
