Council Roundup: New Southside Bar, Scooter Pilot Approved

A site on Peoria’s southside that has been a problem bar in the past will get a liquor license, but with a change.

The new Della’s Lounge at 1801 Southwest Adams had asked for a Class A liquor license, which is given to taverns. But the Peoria City Council last night approved a Class B-1 license, which requires Della’s to derive at least 25 percent of its sales from food.

Della’s owner, Tremayne Branch, told the council he accepts the new license classification. Branch also owns the three Rumberger’s restaurants in Peoria.

Union contract approved

Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union have a new contract with the city of Peoria.

Those employees will receive two percent pay raises each of the first three years of the contract, with a one percent wage hike in the fourth year. The contract is retroactive to January first of this year.

The Peoria City Council approved the contract last night on a nine-to-one vote, with councilman Zach Oyler voting against it.

Scooters getting a shot

You’ll see motorized scooters running on the sidewalks of Peoria next spring.

The Peoria City Council last night approved a 90-day pilot program with a company called Lime, which will provide the scooters.

The scooters are intended for one-way use, where users can drop them off anywhere in the city after their intended use. The pilot program begins next April.

Olehy honored

The Peoria City Council last night gave recognition to Fire Chief Ed Olehy upon his retirement. His last day will be November 29 after more than 30 years on the Peoria fire department. He served as fire chief the past two years. He will be replaced by Tony Ardis.
