Council Supports PHA Bid For Taft Redevelopment Funding, But Wants More Community Input

The City Council voted Tuesday to add a letter of support as the Peoria Housing Authority continues its efforts to finance the redevelopment of Taft Homes.

Councilmembers stressed their desire for more input from residents, businesses and the community after a brief presentation and update on the project to replace the troubled housing units built in 1952.

Bear Development is working with the PHA to seek public and private funding during the course of the next several months. Possibly some time next year, the tenants of Taft Homes will be relocated for free to other PHA housing while the buildings are demolished and construction of new affordable housing takes place.
