McLean County public health officials on Monday reported just 24 new coronavirus cases—the lowest single-day total in over three weeks.
The county's testing positivity rate also has declined for the fourth straight day, down to 6.6%. It peaked at 12.5% back on Sept. 5, during the height of the Illinois State University outbreak. It's now below the state's "warning" level threshold of 8%, although that does not immediately remove McLean County's warning status.
Of the 24 new cases, 11 were college-aged people between 18 and 29 years old, according to the McLean County Health Department (MCHD).
There have been 53 new cases among children (ages 1 to 17) reported in McLean County since Labor Day. That's an increase of 35%.
Illinois State University on-campus testing sites are closed on weekends. ISU reported no new test results or positive cases on Monday.
McLean County's largest testing site (the Interstate Center in Bloomington) tested 421 people on Sunday. That's the lowest daily total since Aug. 9. Several new testing sites also are opening this week.
There are seven people hospitalized (unchanged from Sunday), including two in intensive care. There are 1,412 people isolating at home. The 1,419 active cases is a new record high.
