Cruz, Sanders Top McLean Co. Presidential Tally

Texas Senator Ted Cruz took 40 percent of the Republican ballots cast in McLean County during the Illinois Primary. His 12,530 votes edged out Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who polled 12,133 votes on the Democratic side. This is with 98 percent of vote totals in as of early Wednesday.

Sanders, who was involved in what amounts to a two-person race with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, won 53 percent of the vote to Clinton's 46 percent, or 10,723 votes.

Donald Trump, who made a high-profile campaign stop in Bloomington Sunday, garnered 8,184 votes or 26 percent of the Republican total. Ohio Governor John Kasich netted 5,510 McLean County votes , or 17 percent.

There were 31,563 Republican votes cast in the county and 23,104 Democratic ballots. Voter turnout in Bloomington was slightly above 50 percent, and slightly below that figure in areas of McLean County outside of Bloomington.
