Longtime Normal West basketball coach Brian Cupples has announced his resignation.
Cupples led the Wildcats to a 256-243 record and four regional titles in 17 seasons as head coach.
“His athletes not only learned how to play the game of basketball but also learned life lessons under his leadership,” said Normal West athletic director Stan Lewis. "He is a great coach and an even better person."
Cupples will remain the school’s assistant athletic director and will continue to teach physical education and drivers’ education at West.
“I have been blessed to have been the head coach at such a great school,” Cupples said in a news release.
He had also served as head coach previously at Rantoul and Newark.
Lewis said the search for a new boys basketball coach at Normal West will begin immediately.
