After 16 years in the job, state Rep. Dan Brady said he wants another term.
The Bloomington-Normal Republican announced his re-election plans Monday, saying government—in the words of Ronald Reagan—"is the problem." Brady said he hopes voters give him permission to remain part of the solution.
Brady acknowledged frustration with partisanship, the financial issues surrounding the budget and education funding, and the daunting pension debt.
"The challenges facing state government are not minor, but they are no hill for a climber. And I am definitely a climber," said Brady.
Brady said his top priority for a new term would be a stable capital bill not constructed with smoke and mirrors.
Brady also said his major motivation in office is constituent services.
Brady is now the No. 2 GOP member in the state House. In January he became deputy Republican leader.
Brady said he has authored and passed more than 50 bills that have been signed into law during his service. He cautioned he does not believe in offering legislation unnecessarily.
Before winning election to the House in 2000 in the then 88th District, Brady served two terms as McLean County coroner. He now fills the 105th House District seat.
At least one Republican is considering a primary challenge to Brady. Realtor David Paul Blumenshine announced in mid-August he's exploring the race.
