Lack of a working Carbon Monoxide detector, and a bad furnace nearly killed two Bloomington residents Saturday. The fire department recieved a call of two people seizing. When responders got there, the CO detector on their medical bag went off. The residents were found in the bedroom with CO levels over 25%. High flow oxygen was administered, and both were taken to the hospital. Even though you can't smell Carbon Monoxide, it kills 500 Americans every year, and accounts for about 15,000 emergency calls. The gas is the result of incomplete combustion and symptoms include nausea, headaches, dizziness, and confusion. Detectors can alert people to the presence of the gas.
