Tazewell County will be home to one of 40 new dementia care sites in Illinois.

The state Department of Healthcare and Family Services approved John Evans Supportive Living of Pekin to offer apartments specifically designed to support people with Alzheimer’s and related memory loss.

Laurie Hill is director of marketing for the facility.

“There will be 50 private memory care apartments,” Hill said. You’ll have different programming in there — somebody running activities that are specifically for people with dementia.”

John Evans’ dementia care units will be in a newly constructed building. There’s not yet a timeline for when the project will break ground.

The state anticipates the 40 new facilities will serve about 1,600 Medicaid patients. They expect units will be available over the next three years.
