Dems Slate McLean County Board Candidates

Jacob DeGeal

The Democratic Party in McLean County has slated a couple County Board candidates for the November election. Jessielee Hinshaw will face GOP incumbent George Wendt in the southwest side district 3. That district tends to favor Republicans.

Hinshaw lives on a farm and works for the Illinois Network for Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies. Hinshaw says in a party news release she wants to focus on transportation infrastructure, government transparency, and mental health services. Hinshaw says the Illinois Policy Institute ranks McLean County low in government transparency.

Kimberly Pfeifer will be the Democratic candidate in District 5 in Normal. Pfeifer will be up against Dave Selzer who was appointed to fill an unexpired term. This district also favors the GOP in the way it is drawn.

Pfeifer is a compliance analyst at State Farm Insurance and a board member at Home Sweet Home ministries. Diversity is one of her campaign themes. Pfeifer is African American. She says she wants to represent the growing, productive, and diverse region with sensitivity, progressive thought, and integrity.

If she unseats Selzer, Pfeiffer would be the only current African American on the County Board, and only the fifth woman out of 20 County Board members. Pfeifer is using diversity as a campaign theme. She is a compliance analyst at State Farm.

Democrats are actually slating three candidates, but Laurie Wollrab has already been appointed to fill a vacancy and her district 6 seat is not under a GOP challenge.

The McLean County GOP slated Scott Murphy in District 2 last week.

Tuesday is the final day for major party candidates to file slating documents. Third party candidates can file to run by late June. But, they require significantly higher numbers of petition signatures to gain a place on the ballot.
