Does Your Local Hospital Make the Grade?

WCBU News/Jeff Smudde

The non-profit Leapfrog Group's Fall 2019 Hospital Rankings are out. Some Peoria-area hospitals stack up better than others.  OSF Saint Francis Medical Center received an A, as did OSF Saint Mary in Galesburg.

“We are pleased but not surprised at these high ratings,” said OSF Saint Francis President Bob Anderson in a statement. “Providing the highest level of care has always been our focus and it’s great to see our efforts recognized in this way.”Methodist got a B, and Proctor got a C. Pekin Hospital received one of just four D grades among the 46 hospitals ranked statewide.  A UnityPoint spokeswoman says smaller hospitals like Pekin can be at a disadvantage in such rating systems, and notes recent technology and facility improvements may not be factored into LeapFrog's ratings.

"Quality assurance measures are robust in all our hospitals, including Pekin Hospital. Through recent large investments, we’ve welcomed new providers to Pekin, improved our facilities and technology, and upgraded to an all-electronic medical record system to improve care coordination," said UnityPoint Regional Marketing Manager Allyson McKean in a statement. "A safe and positive outcome for every person in our care is the ultimate measure of hospital quality and the ultimate goal of every clinician. UnityPoint Health provides safe, quality health care to the community."LeapFrog uses 28 different criteria to rank hospitals across the country.
