Downs Man Identified In Fatal Crash In Far Northeast Normal

UPDATED 1:40 p.m. | McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder has identified the victim of a fatal one-vehicle crash in far northeast Normal on Wednesday afternoon. 

Yoder said John Charsha, 27, of Downs died from head injuries he suffered in the crash, according to preliminary autopsy findings.  

The crash happened before 4:50 p.m. near 19906 East 1600 North Road, on Fort Jesse Road east of Towanda Barnes Road, authorities said. Yoder said Charsha was the sole occupant.

Yoder said the SUV Charsha was driving struck a tree at a high rate of speed. 

Charsha was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m. 

The crash remains under investigation by the coroner's office and McLean County sheriff's office.
