East Peoria Keeps Property Tax Rate Flat

Countesy City of East Peoria

East Peoria's property tax rate will remain the same next year.

The council voted 5-0 to again collect at a rate of $1.22 per $100 of estimated assessed value. That comes out to just over $5.2 million, up about $14 ,000 from last year when newly assessed properties are factored in.Commissioner Dan Decker says it's the right move with increasing sales tax revenue and more big projects on the horizon."It is always more comfortable and better if we can leave, keep taxes where we are. So this is a good year to do that, with sales tax as good as it has been," Decker said. "I know our costs go up, but our revenue's going up," said comissioner Seth Mingus. "And a lot of that is the sales tax. And I think it's doing what it's supposed to do. So I agree with keeping the rate the same."The city council didn't vote on a second option that could have collected another $110,000 under the county's tax caps.
