Employee at South Peoria Dollar General Tests Positive for COVID-19

An employee at the Dollar General store on Southwest Adams in South Peoria has tested positive for COVID-19.

A company spokesperson confirmed the employee's diagnosis Thursday evening.

"Prior to this individual’s diagnosis, we established response protocols for employees who have been impacted by COVID-19, including those who have tested positive. We are requiring this individual to stay home and not return to work for at least 14 days after their confirmed diagnosis, unless otherwise advised by a medical professional," said Dollar General spokesperson Mary Colbert.

She said all employees at the store were notified. The employee who tested positive will be paid for their regularly-scheduled hours during the quarantine period.

Colbert said all 16,300 Dollar General stores nationwide have implemented social distancing guidelines and made gloves available to employees. Hand sanitizer is also available for employees and customers in stores, she said.

The Dollar Store chain is also working to distrubute face masks for employees. Self-made masks are allowed. Sneeze guards are also planned for checkout lanes.
