The Federal Aviation Administration now says the employee who tested positive for COVID-19 in Peoria didn't work in the air traffic control tower. On Wednesday, the FAA said the employee works at the airport, but not inside the tower.
Peoria International Airport director Gene Olson said it's not clear what the employee's job entailed or what part of the airport they worked in.
"As a matter of fract, this person had been on extended leave and had not even reported to the airport when they came back from their leave," Olson said. "It's kind of a big blow up over nothing."
The FAA first reported it Saturday via an online map documenting positive COVID-19 cases among its workforce across the country.
Peoria-area health officials say they were previously made aware of the case.
Normal operations are continuing at the Peoria International Airport.
