Peoria Public Schools has a plan in place if a local coronavirus outbreak forces schools to shut down.
Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat said the risk is still low in the Peoria area. But with Gov. J.B. Pritzker issuing an emergency declaration Monday, the district is ready to use e-learning days if kids can't come to school."We have that platform. We have that ability a lot of other districts don't have. The Learning Everywhere, Anywhere, including the packets that we will send home. So we feel good about that infrastructure that we have in place," she said. She said transparency will be key throughout."If you have, for example, family members that are returning from a study abroad - some people are traveling - let's just communicate so that we can give you guidance, or turn you over to the individuals who can give you really solid sound guidance," Kherat said. Kherat said proper handwashing techniques will help prevent spreading the virus.She said she's meeting with local first responders and healthcare providers soon to coordinate a coronavirus response.
