Fire Damages Home In Normal; One Pet Killed

Four people were displaced after a fire caused extensive damage to a home in Normal on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The fire happened around 3:45 p.m. Sunday in the basement of a home at 1103 Whitaker St. in the Savannah Green subdivision, the Normal Fire Department said.

None of the four people were home at the time. A dog was rescued and revived at the scene. A cat was killed in the fire.

The American Red Cross is working to assist the four people with lodging and temporary needs. The home sustained smoke damage throughout.

Normal Fire investigators were still working at the scene late Sunday to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
