Public health officials announced Illinois' first COVID-19 death.

A Chicago woman in her 60s who tested positive earlier this month has died.

"I am deeply saddened by the news that we've dreaded since the earliest days of this outbreak: the first COVID-19 related death in Illinois," said Governor J.B. Pritzker. "All of Illinois stands with this patient's family and loved ones in mourning her loss and honoring her memory. May her memory be a blessing. There are going to be moments during the next few weeks and months when this burden feels like it is more than we can bear – this is one of those moments, but we will get through this together.”

The Illinois Department of Public Health is also confirming 21 new cases in a DuPage County long-term care facility.

There are now 160 total cases in 15 counties. There are no new cases reported in Central Illinois as of Tuesday afternoon.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is now restricting all visitation except for certain situations, such as end-of-life residents. Volunteers, non-essential personnel, group activities, and communal dining are also restricted until further notice.

Nursing homes will implement fever and respiratory screening for residents and employees.
