Gerdes Retiring As Normal's Water Department Director

Staff

The town of Normal is now in the market for a water department director, as well as a parks and recreation director.

Steve Gerdes is announcing his retirement, effective in August, after nearly 20 years with the department. City manager Mark Peterson says there will be a national search for Gerdes' replacement. He says Gerdes has helped elevate the town's water department status during his tenure, so finding a suitable replacement shouldn't be a problem.

Earlier this week, parks director Chris Cotten announced he was leaving after one year to take a position in Salina, Kansas.

Willis is a Bloomington, IL, native. During his senior year at Bloomington High School, he finished third in the "Radio Speaking" division of the state speech contest, the only year he competed.
