The McLean County Republican Party is seeking nominations for its Everyday Hero Award program.

Nominees must have been engaged in volunteer activities for a minimum of five years and benefited a community or communities in a substantial, important, or unique way.

“This award represents what we think are good Republican principles. Not relying on government answers. Looking to the individuals and grassroots organizations to tackle problems and serve the needs for our community,” said McLean County GOP chair Connie Beard. “That’s the first line of defense and the first answer for making a difference in our community.”

The Everyday Hero Award was inspired by last year’s Lincoln Reagan Dinner, when speaker White House Executive Chef Martin Mongiello recognized local volunteer efforts by presenting Distinguished Service Awards from the Presidential Service Center. The two winners among nine nominations were the David and Bob Kieser families, and Normal Police detective Nicole Bruno.

“We had just such a great response, and it was such a positive experience, that we wanted to recreate it and hopefully make it an annual event,” Beard said.

The Everyday Hero Award winner will be recognized April 7, 2020, at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner. U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis and Darin LaHood will present the award. Along with the award a grant of $500 will be presented to a charity chosen by the winner.

The deadline to submit nominations is March 16. You can find the nomination form online.
