Bloomington Police have arrested two people on gun and counterfeiting charges.

Officers said it started as a simple traffic stop near Douglas and Gridley on Saturday night. Officer Anna Legner said she smelled marijuana. Shawndell Wright, 23, of Bloomington told the officer who he was, but he allegedly sped away when Legner returned to the squad car.

A nearby resident found a loaded gun in the grass in the area and called police. Officers then raided Wright's address in the 800 block of West Washington. Officers said they found drug equipment and ammunition. They also said Wright also had several counterfeit $100 bills.

Wright was arrested for possession of a weapon by a felon, second offense.

Theotis Hilliard Jr., 24, of Normal was arrested for allegedly resisting a police officer. Police said Hilliard had several grams of cannabis.
