Interest Shown Right Away For Sorensen Seat

McLean County Government

The scramble for the seat of McLean County Board member Matt Sorensen has already begun. Two Republicans have filed as write in candidates for the March Primary. County Clerk Kathy Michael says the deadline to file as a write in is Thursday. The two are: Scott Murphy and Mike Sumner.

Sorenson resigned Tuesday saying he needed to devote his efforts to defending himself from a five count federal fraud indictment. He was also the County Board Chairman.

Clerk Michael says Sorensen remains on the March ballot in district two representing southeast Bloomington, Ellsworth, Downs, and LeRoy. Michael says the deadline for Sorensen to remove himself from the ballot was the close of business Wednesday.
