On 'International Childfree Day,' Bradley Professor Calls For Mutual Respect Of All Decisions

August 1st is International Childfree Day, in recognition of adults who decide not to have children.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show the U.S. fertility rate has been declining for a decade. It hit an all-time low lost year at 59 births per 1,000 women.

When people do have children, they’re waiting longer and having fewer.

Reporter Dana Vollmer talked to Bradley University counseling professor Dr. Lori Russell-Chapin about why people — and especially younger generations — are embracing a child-free lifestyle and how to reduce the stigma around that decision.
