ISU will allow seating at 20% capacity for football games at Hancock Stadium this season.

Illinois State University athletics has announced it will allow up to 20% capacity for its spring football schedule at Hancock Stadium this season, but tailgating will not be allowed. That would give up to nearly 2,700 fans the opportunity to be among the first to witness a sporting event in person on the ISU campus since the pandemic began last March.

The athletics department said in a news release fans will be required to wear masks expect for when eating or drinking in designated locations.

ISU said the capacity limits comply with the state coronavirus protocols under Phase 4 of Restore Illinois.

Season-ticket holders will be reseated in pods of no more than four, the university said. Tickets will be sent via mobile delivery.

ISU will play eight regular season games in the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s reduced format, after the Valley and most mid-major and smaller conferences pushed their seasons to the spring due to the pandemic.

ISU will play four home games.

The Redbirds will open the spring season Feb. 20 at Missouri State. The home opener will be Feb. 27 against South Dakota.
