LaHood Supporting Trump As GOP Nominee, But...

Staff

The apparent Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump has the apparent support of central Illinois Congressman Darin LaHood. During a stop in Bloomington, LaHood (R-Dunlap) said he's standing by his statement that he will support whoever wins the GOP nomination.

"I'm going to support the Republican nominee. It appears it's going to be him (Trump). I'm hopeful we'll have more of an opportunity to better hear his views on how we fix the country. But in my district, people believe the pendulum has swung so far to the left over the last seven years that we have to have that come back," said LaHood.

But, LaHood added that he's keeping his ears open.

"I want to hear the specifics and the merits of what Donald Trump believes in and if there's something that I don't agree with, I'm going to let him know," said LaHood.

LaHood said he originally backed Marco Rubio because the Florida senator was a unifying conservative voice in the party.

Trump is the delegate count leader and the only Republican presidential candidate not to suspend his campaign.
