LaSalle County High School Student Contracts COVID-19

Centers for Disease Control Public Library

A high school student in the LaSalle County village of Seneca tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Seneca Township High School officials said the LaSalle County Health Department notified them Thursday afternoon. Public health officials currently deem other students and staff to be at low risk.

The LaSalle County Health Department said it won't do contact tracing because the student didn't exhibit symptoms. But residents expressed concern the student was asymptomatic but contagious in a Facebook post from the high school Thursday evening.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker ordered Illinois schools shut down from Tuesday to March 30 in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Seneca sits along the Illinois River, about an hour and a half northeast of Peoria.

There are 422 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Illinois as of Thursday afternoon.
