A Late Night For The Last Voter At ISU

Jim Browne

The last voter in line at the Bone Student Center on ISU's campus will cast their ballot at about nine o'clock this evening, according to poll watchers. A long line remained at the official closing time of the polls, but election officials handed out slips of paper with identifying writing to those in line at seven to serve as a security check.

Viruk Ijigu is an ISU Senior business and finance major and the last person in line.

"I'm a procrastinator," Ijugu said.

Ijigu said he planned to vote for Hillary Clinton, and arrived at the polling place with only ten minutes to spare.

"I waited because I had class and everything and I also still had to read a little bit more about who I actually wanted to vote for. I had one in mind, but I wanted to do a little more research. Then I went to the wrong, I went to a precinct at first, but it turns out it wasn't in my district and I had to leave, but ended up coming to the Bone Student Center," he said.

Viruk said he was not keen on waiting another hour and a half after GLT talked with him, but is enjoying free pizza ordered for those in line by the Quakers of Bloomington-Normal.

He also said "this might be one of the biggest elections since everything has been riled up so a lot of people have voices now." He said "a lot of young people are really into it." "It has become a more intense discussion than other elections," and he said "it's important and something that might affect me and the country in the future as well."

Election watchers say nearly 1,300 people have voted at ISU today. That compares to nineteen that showed up for the primary two years ago in a non-presidential year.
