Local Hospitals Request Limited Visits As Flu Cases Increase

Peoria and Tazewell County hospitals are asking people to limit hospital visits to avoid spreading the flu.

Sara Sparkman of the Tazewell County Health Department says it's a precaution intended to keep people healthy.

"In the last week, we have had an increase in the number of positive flu cases. So that's why we instituted the visitor restrictions," she said. "And throughout the country, there has been an increase. There is a lot of flu activity going on."

Hospitals are requesting people under age 18 refrain from visiting if possible. Sparkman says people should cover their coughs and sneezes, and stay home if they feel sick instead of visiting.

And she says it's still not too late to get a flu shot.
