Local McDonald's restaurants are participating in the fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017.

The United Way of McLean County is collaborating with a fast-food giant to try to meet its 2017 fundraising goal.

McDonald's restaurants in Bloomington-Normal are extending a helping hand to the local United Way by holding a customer change drive Thursday, Oct. 19, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers will be taking donations in the lobby and drive-through areas of five McDonald locations: Main and Hovey and East College Avenue by the Shoppes at College Hills in Normal, Empire Street across from the Eastland Mall, Empire Street across from the Bloomington airport, and the Oakland and Veterans location in Bloomington.

“We want to partner with family friendly organizations, and the United Way certainly meets that criteria,” said Bloomington-Normal McDonald's owners Jack Millan and Mikel Petro.

This drive comes shortly after United Way announced a new strategic fundraising plan after its 2016 campaign brought in less than half the money raised in prior years.
