A unit organized last year at Illinois State University is planning a free conference on cultural diversity next month and the search is on for local presenters.

The Cultural Response Campus Community was formed last year. Organizer Stacey Hardin says speakers are being booked, but the conference is designed to incorporate central Illinois groups with a story to tell.

"We are committed to providing inclusive environments for all sub-groups in our area. Of course, it's race, LGBTQ-plus community, religion, sexism, ageism--all of those sub-groups that can often times be marginalized," said Hardin.

"This is open to all of ISU, to the community, so basically all of Bloomington-Normal. It's a completely free conference," Hardin added.

Hardin said anyone in the area wanting to present at the conference October 24 and 25 at ISU may do so by signing up at the conference website but the deadline to do so is Tuesday September 6.

Willis is a Bloomington, IL, native. During his senior year at Bloomington High School, he finished third in the "Radio Speaking" division of the state speech contest, the only year he competed.
