Design concepts for a proposed privately-owned 5-story luxury student housing complex across the street from Bradley University were unveiled to the public Monday.

Architect James Kemper said all the people involved have links to Bradley and want to see the school succeed.

"If you look around the universities in the United States, the number one student life issue is housing. And quality student housing and safe student housing," Kemper said. "We plan to provide a product that does not exist in Peoria so that more students will come to Peoria."

Kemper says the units will house 134 beds. They'll have individual bathrooms, washers and dryers, and full kitchens. But he said the rents will be comparable to what's available in the area.

The apartments would sit on the current site of Bacci Pizza at the corner of Bradley and Duryea.

"This is our community. We have a tie to it. So the people that are involved in the creation care," he said.

Kemper said the building will have a modern facade. He expects to open by 2022 if all goes well.
