Man Living in Car Dies From Cold Exposure

Creative Commons

A man died yesterday of cold exposure.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said officers went to the Walmart parking lot on University around noon Thursday after a bystander called in a report of a vehicle covered in snow.

Officers found 64-year-old Michael Balicki inside, covered in blankets and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harwood says the temperature was 12 degrees at the time of the call. Balicki was living in his car.

Temperatures are bitterly cold in Peoria Friday. Balicki is the second person reported dead from cold exposure in Peoria this year.
