Staff / WGLT

The McLean County Health Department on Monday reported 83 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases, as the county’s testing positivity rate ticked down to 4.3%. That's the lowest it's been since Oct. 20.

The new cases were found in a batch of about 2,100 test results returned over the weekend.

Hospitalizations held steady. There are 21 McLean County residents hospitalized with COVID. Bloomington-Normal hospitals have 32 COVID patients in their care.

Intensive care bed use is at 64%, down from 73% on Friday. Overall open bed capacity remains below 20%.

Another 443 people are isolating at home, while an additional 143 are now considered recovered.

More than 14,700 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in McLean County, according to health department data. That’s an increase of 4,200 over the weekend.

MCHD is partnering with Carle BroMenn Medical Center to run three vaccine clinics this week. Two are reserved for residents due for the second dose of vaccine. Those will be held at Grossinger Motors Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and Thursday, Feb. 4.

Those who need their first dose will go to the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) in Normal on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Appointments are required. The health department’s appointment portal shows all time slots are currently booked.

Long-term care facilities

Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) data show minimal changes in COVID cases at nursing homes in McLean County.

There are open outbreaks at 12 facilities. That means new cases have been reported within the last month.

IDPH data is updated weekly. The most recent reporting period indicates three new COVID-related deaths at Heritage Health of Normal, two newly reported cases from Sugar Creek Alzheimer Care, and one additional death at Westminster Village.

The county reported 16 deaths last week. Nine were tied to long-term care facilities. COVID-related deaths are not reported on the same day they occur. It may take days or weeks to determine an official cause of death. There may be additional delays in reporting that data to the state.

The McLean County Nursing Home added six new confirmed cases during the latest reporting period, bringing its outbreak total to 106 cases and 15 deaths. The Lofts added 14 new cases, bringing its total to 65 cases and 11 deaths.

The second outbreak at Bloomington Rehabilitation and Care, which saw eight confirmed cases and one COVID-related death, is now considered closed.
