McLean Co. Sheriff's Police Capture Escapee

McLean County Sheriff's Police are searching for a man who escaped thieir custody on Friday.

UPDATED 6 a.m. | McLean County sheriff's police said early Saturday they had captured Thomas Benge and he was taken back into custody. Benge is being held at the McLean County jail.

Benge reportedly fled from the sheriff’s office lobby in downtown Bloomington at about 1:50 p.m. Friday and was last seen just north of the Law and Justice Center at 104 W. Front St.

According to a message on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, Benge is a white male, 6-feet tall, 160 pounds, has a tattoo above his left eye and a scar on his right eyebrow.

He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie, black sweatpants and black high-top tennis shoes.

He was wearing handcuffs on his wrist when he escaped. Sheriff’s police confirmed Benge was not armed.

Bloomington and Normal police assisted with the search.

According to McLean County court records, Benge faces felony drug possession charges and driving on a suspended license.
