McLean Co. Tops 15K COVID Cases, 20K Fully Vaccinated

Ferrero is hosting a drive-through COVID-19 testing clinic Wednesday and Thursday.

McLean County has surpassed 15,000 confirmed and probable coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) has reported 83 new cases since Friday as hospitalizations and testing positivity ticked up slightly.

The McLean County Health Department announced 83 new coronavirus cases on Monday.

The health department said 24 McLean County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s an increase of one from last week. However, more hospital beds become available in Bloomington-Normal over the weekend. Seventy-eight percent of all beds, including 69% of intensive care beds are occupied.

MCHD said on Monday that 248 people are isolating at home and 70 people have been released from quarantine since Friday. The county said 14,609 people are considered recovered since the start of the pandemic.

The county’s seven-day testing positivity rate inched up to 3.2%, while the cumulative positivity rate holds at 5.7%, based on more than 265,900 tests conducted since last March.

McLean County has reported 177 COVID-related deaths.

COVID Vaccines

More than 20,100 McLean County residents have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) said more than 58,300 vaccine doses have been administered in the county. The county’s rate of fully vaccinated (11.7%) trails the state average of 13.8%. 

Illinois is expanding vaccine eligbility in the Phase 1B+ population this week to include state government workers, higher education staff and media. The state will add restaurant staff, construction workers and religious leaders to the eligibility list next week. 

Illinois will make all adults 16 and older eligible to receive the vaccine starting April 12. 

COVID testing

IDPH has announced the Ferrero plant in Bloomington will host coronavirus testing to the general public from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday and from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Testing will be available via drive-thru and walk-up. 

The plant is located at 2501 Beich Road.

Testing at the Interstate Center in Bloomington has been scaled back to four days per week.
