Editor's note: Kimberly Pfeifer did not respond to repeated requests by GLT News for an interview.
McLean County Board candidate Dave Selzer says he agrees with the county's move into mental health services.
The 59-year old Republican is running in district five against Democrat Kimberly Pfeifer. Selzer said he's not keen on spending taxpayer money that way, but sees little choice.
"The state has just washed its hands, and it's a major issue throughout the state of Illinois. I'm not saying it's a choice I'd make to get into it, but if not us, who?" Selzer asked.
He was a board member from 2000 until 2008, and re-joined the board last year. He and Pfeifer are running for a two-year term.
Selzer said he's running because of something his parents instilled in him when he was a child.
"It may sound a little altruistic but I've literally had a life of service. My parents worked very hard in the community. I want to serve the people and hopefully do good," Selzer said.
