McLean County's COVID Positivity Rate Nears 4%

Illinois State University reported 14 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

McLean County’s coronavirus testing positivity rate reached its highest level in nearly two months on Tuesday as active cases grow and hospitalizations remain stable.According to the McLean County Health Department (MCHD), the county reported 68 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases since Monday, bringint its total since the start of the pandemic to 15,126.

The McLean County Health Department reported 68 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

McLean County has 289 active cases, including 24 hospitalizations and 265 people isolating at home. The active case count is the county’s highest since Feb. 12.

The county reports 14,660 people have completed their time in quarantine and are considered recovered.

The county’s seven-day testing positivity rate rose nearly a full point to 3.9%,That’s the highest it has been since Feb. 8. The county’s cumulative positivity rate since last March is 5.7% based on more than 266,700 tests conducted.

Currently, 82% of Bloomington-Normal hospital beds and 69% of intensive care beds are in use, according to the health department. The hospitals report they have 11 COVID patients under their care.

McLean County’s COVID death toll remains 177.

At Illinois State University, 14 new coronavirus cases were reported among students on Monday, one week after students returned from spring break. That’s the highest single-day total on campus since Feb. 3.

ISU’s seven-day testing positivity rate still remains below county and state rates. The university has reported 2,176 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, according to its online COVID dashboard.

COVID vaccines

The rate of COVID vaccinations has slowed over the last two days, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). The state reports 663 vaccines were administered on Sunday and Monday. More than 9,200 people were vaccinated in the county last week.

Nearly 59,000 vaccine doses have been put in people’s arms in McLean County and the county’s rate of fully vaccinated remains at 11.7% since Tuesday. In Illinois, 14.1% of the population has received both vaccine doses.
