The Murray Baker Bridge will shine again.

The five-year capital construction plan released by the Illinois Department of Transportation Monday includes $3.5 million for relighting the bridge.

Ashley Schreck was one of the leaders of the Light It Up campaign to restore the lights.

“It’s just a really great thing for our community. It’s just amazing that they would want to listen to young professionals here in Peoria, Illinois about what we think could make our region better," she said.

The bridge carrying Interstate 74 over the Illinois River was first lit up in 1991, but dimmed in 2012.

Schreck said she's not sure what IDOT is planning for the new lighting, but looks forward to finding out more. She thanked the community for backing the effort by the Light It Up group.

The work is slated to coincide with the bridge deck replacement project starting next year.
