Mboka Mwilambwe was first appointed to the Bloomington City Council in 2011 to serve out the term of the previous alderman for Ward 3. He was first elected in 2013.

Another Bloomington City Council member has decided against running for re-election in the spring.

Mboka Mwilambwe said Sunday he won't seek another term. He currently represents Ward 3, which includes much of Bloomington's east side. He's been on the council since 2011.

Mwilambwe, who works at Illinois State University, said he made the decision after "careful consideration."

"I look forward to serving out the remainder of my term and responding to the needs of Ward 3 residents. When the time is right, I will also share what lies ahead for me and reflect on my service for the residents of Ward 3," Mwilambwe said in a statement.

Scott Black in Ward 7 also decided against running for re-election. He's already left the council, with Mollie Ward chosen to fill out the rest of his term.

Five council seats and the position of mayor are all up for election. The election is in April.
