No New Tri-County COVID-19 Deaths; Illinois Tops 1M Vaccinations

Active COVID-19 cases in the Tri-County area dropped by more than 300 in the past day, while the region added just 50 more total infections and – for the first time in more than a month – no new deaths.

Meanwhile, Illinois topped the 1 million mark for coronavirus vaccine doses administered as the Tri-County region’s dosage total increased to 48,160. According to the the Illinois Department of Public Health's online database, 6,667 people in the Tri-County area are fully vaccinated.

In Tuesday’s daily update, Tri-County health officials reported 45 patients in Peoria-area hospitals for COVID-19, including 13 in intensive care units. The number of residents in home isolation dropped to 1,927 from 2,245 the previous day.

The case count since for Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties increased to 32,115 since the start of the pandemic while the death toll remained at 519. The last time no new deaths were added was Dec. 29.

The IDPH reported 2,304 new COVID cases and 47 more deaths since Monday, bringing the state’s totals from the pandemic to 1,130,917 infections and 19,306 fatalities. Illinois hospitals have 2,447 patients with the coronavirus, including 533 in ICUs and 265 on ventilators.

The number of coronavirus vaccine doses administered climbed to 1,028,969, while 227,362 people in the state have been fully vaccinated. Illinois’ preliminary seven-day positivity rate held steady at 4.9%.
