UPDATED 8:40 p.m. | A stretch of Pipeline Road in northeast Normal was closed for several hours Thursday afternoon as police investigated a fatal motorcycle crash.
The crash happened around 1:42 p.m. on northbound Pipeline Road, just north of Interstate 55, Normal Police said. Witnesses say the motorcycle left the road and struck a utility pole. The lone male rider later died at the hospital. His name was not released pending family notification.
"The investigation is still ongoing and our department will work jointly with the McLean County coroner’s office to release additional information when it becomes available," Normal Police said in a statement.
Northbound Pipeline Road was closed between I-55 and Northtown road as traffic crash reconstructionists worked the scene, police said. It was reopened just after 7 p.m., police said.
