One person died Tuesday in a crash on Interstate 74 near Morton involving two semis and a passenger vehicle.
Illinois State Police said in a statement all three vehicles were traveling east on I-74 just before noon when the trailing semi failed to slow as the semi and car ahead slowed for traffic and crashed into the passenger vehicle. The driver in the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead.
The semi then hit the leading semi. Both truck drivers were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The name of the deceased is being held pending family notification.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said in a statement an autopsy is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The case remains under investigation by Illinois State Police and the coroner’s office.
