OSF HealthCare Dedicates Knoxville Avenue Facility

A former grocery store on Knoxville Avenue has been transformed into a new medical facility that will start welcoming patients later this month.

OSF HealthCare held a blessing and dedication ceremony Tuesday for the new Center for Health in what used to be a Cub Foods.

“The move to repurpose this building was really motivated, in part, by major things we’ve wanted to occur on the main campus,” said Sister Judith Ann Duvall, chairperson of OSF St. Francis Healthcare System.

“So, those had to be relocated so we could make space for that new start. And that gave you the blessing and now of having all this newly renovated space, but together then it gives us a wonderful opportunity to enhance the service of human life with the greatest care and love.”

OSF purchased the building in late 2018 and spent a 1 1/2 years transforming it into the medical facility.

“Our OSF mission has not changed in 143 years. For us health care is not just an industry … it’s a calling,” said Bob Anderson, president of OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center. “It’s about caring for human life as God cares for us, and this beautiful new facility is another investment in our community that the Sisters in the board are proud to make.”

The building will be home to offices dedicated to endocrinology and diabetes, rheumatology, and infectious diseases, Heartland Clinic, laboratory services and a retail pharmacy. The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) Pediatric Resource Center and University Pediatrics also will move into the new space.

“This beautifully renovated space is in prime location and will certainly provide us the opportunity to enhance the quality of our patient experience and quality of patient care,” said Dr. Meenakshy Aiyer, UICOMP interim regional dean.

“Throughout all three of these organizations, you’ll find a spirit of cooperation that enables us to provide the Peoria area with the best health care,” added Dr. Gregg Stoner, chief medical officer at Heartland Health Services. “It’s a privilege to be part of a federally qualified health center where we serve low-income patients.”
