OSF Parts Ways With Nurse Following Facebook Post About Protesters

A nurse no longer works at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center after making a Facebook post where she said "protesters make great hood ornaments."

The nurse was replying to a post by a person who said they would not brake for protesters while hauling a horse trailer for fear of injuring or scaring the animals.

An OSF spokeswoman says the healthcare organization condemns words and actions that marginalize people based on race, culture, ethnicity, gender, religion, or orientation. The spokeswoman says that policy extends to social media usage.

"At OSF HealthCare, we serve our communities with the greatest care and love. It is our priority to make sure every Mission Partner, patient and family is met with an environment of safety, justice, and equality," the spokeswoman said in a statement.

OSF declined to confirm the nurse's identity, citing organizational policy.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Friday, the spokeswoman said the nurse was no longer with OSF.
